As per the latest TRAI report for month of june 2011, the number of telephone subscribers in India has increased from 874.68 to 885.99 million, thereby registering a growth rate of 1.29%. The share of Urban Subscriber has marginally declined to 66.36% from 66.38% where as share of Rural Subscribers has marginally increased from 33.62% to 33.64%. With this, the overall Tele-density in India increased to 73.97 at the end of June, 2011 as compared with 73.11 of the previous month.
Wireline Segment: Wireline subscriber base declined from 34.40 Million in May 2011 to 34.29 Million at the end of June 2011. BSNL and MTNL, two PSU operators hold 82.14% of the Wireline market share.
Broadband: Total Broadband subscriber base has increased from 12.12 million in May 2011 to 12.32 million in June 2011, there by showing a growth of 1.64%.
Mobile Number Portability: As per the data reported by the service providers, by the end of June 2011 about 129.85 lakh subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their mobile number.
